So much entertainment for everyone at GrandWest this summer

Make your way to GrandWest this December and January to experience world-class entertainment for the whole family under one, very large, roof. GrandWest is offering a host of activities for kids throughout the holidays, excellent shows for adults and lots of entertainment the whole family can enjoy together.

“There is so much for everyone to enjoy,” says Elouise Matthys, the PR and Promotions Manager at GrandWest. “This is going to be the best ever summer holiday at GrandWest. Bring your friends and family and join in the fun.”

The international show Queen: It’s a Kinda Magic is on 12 January 2018. Come hear the iconic voice of Freddy Mercury with the incredible guitar solos of Bryan May and all of Queen’s famous rock harmonies, brought back to life with authentic costumes, state-of -the-art sound and lighting and theatrical effects. This not-to-be-missed show offers the full live rock concert experience. (R120 Computicket, Grand Arena, GrandWest)

“If you’re looking for gift ideas for the festive season, tickets for some of the fantastic shows GrandWest has coming up early next year will make wonderful presents,” says Matthys. “I’ve found that gifting experiences is so rewarding.”

Shows coming up include the international star Sam Smith who sings huge hits like I’m Not The Only One and Leave your LoverBryan Ferry, who is performing on Valentine’s Day next year and the popular It’s a Love Thing show. 

Start off your weekend on the right note this summer at Jackson Hall and get your dose of DJ and live entertainment. Our live bands cover some of the best jazz as well as new popular music. This December you can catch Sammy Webber Band, Signature SA and Faze 4 every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday respectively. In January the B Charles Experience will be on Wednesday evenings, Major 7 on Fridays and Chasing Time on Saturdays.

Throughout the summer, every Friday and Saturday night there will be shows on at GrandWest’s vibey Hanover Street Club, as well as the hilarious Sunday comedy evenings. Please call the GrandWest switchboard on 012 505 77 77 to find out what is on.

GrandWest is also a great venue to celebrate New Year’s Eve, with Jeodhouse playing at the Jackson Hall and Bass Mint entertaining the crowds on the gaming floor.

As usual, children have the most fun at GrandWest. This summer holiday GrandWest will turn into a world of pure imagination and ‘Lekka Fun’ for kids. There will be face painting, puppet shows, dancers, ballerinas, jugglers, live DJs, magicians and balloon twisters to keep children of all ages entertained for hours. 

The Fun Park at GrandWest, open from 16 December 2018 to 6 January 2019 will cater for kids of different ages. The Pop-Up Playground will have jumping castles, obstacle courses, cool characters and photo frames will keep the younger children happy for hours.

Children slightly older may prefer to try out the Carnival Rides. All their favourite rides will be there, including a Ferris wheel, Dizzy Barrels, Horse & Aeroplane Swings, Barrel Swings, Bumper Rides and Pedal Go-Karts.

For the more adventurous kids there will be Fast Swings, Bungee Trampolines and Parachute Simulator. The Wipe-Out Games, consisting of Wipe-out Sweeper, Wrecking Ball, Wipe-out Ball Runner and a Zorb Knockout Runner, will also keep the braver children entertained.

“We are super excited to really cater for the kids this summer holiday,” says Matthys. “Parents can bring their children of all ages here to have fun in a safe, happy space.” 

The Magic Company remains a great place to have fun playing exciting arcade games with your children. Come along, spoil the kids and go home with a prize. Young and old can enjoy all the fun of the fair by collecting tickets from the arcade games to exchange for fantastic prizes. A 12-lane tenpin bowling alley has also just moved into the Magic Company.

Another highlight for kids is Laser Tag, the most advanced, versatile game design and play platform in the world. The much-loved Olympic-sized ice-skating rink at the Ice Station will also be open for the holidays. This is energetic entertainment for kids and adults is lots of fun, with bright lights and contemporary music adding to the cheerful vibe.

If you’re looking for the perfect night out with your family, try one of the excellent restaurants at GrandWest. There is the Hussar Grill for steak, Casa Bella for Italian food, The Cape Town Fish Market for seafood, Bukhara for Indian, Beijing Orchard for Asian cuisine, the Quarterdeck and of course the Spur, an old South African family favourite.

There will also be food and drink specials running throughout summer at the Jackson Hall bar and Bravo Bar, the Quarterdeck Restaurant and Sun lounges.
