MTN and SARU host farewell dinner in honour of the Springboks

MTN, in partnership with the South African Rugby Union (SARU) hosted a farewell dinner for the Springbok team and management on Tuesday, 27 August in Johannesburg before they depart for Japan on Friday, 30 August.

“MTN is a proud supporter of the Springboks and this is just one more way we are showing the pride of the country that the nation is behind them as they set off on this historic venture. Our ‘WeGotU, Bokke’ campaign reinforces how South Africans from all walks of life are supporting the team on their quest to win the most prestigious prize in rugby for the third time,” says Mapula Bodibe, Consumer Business Unit Executive at MTN SA.

She says the team’s 1995 feat has shown its power to unite the nation.

“Sport is a powerful instrument that can foster national unity and drive positive change. This year we celebrate 25 years of democracy while MTN, the proud brand behind the Springboks, also celebrates 25 years of connecting people. And how fitting would it be for the Springboks to be successful on their endeavours and fly the South African flag high in the land of the rising sun,” she says.

Mark Alexander, President of SARU, thanked MTN and said: “On behalf of the Springboks I would like to thank MTN for their unstinting support since joining us three seasons ago. They have been part of the team’s upward trajectory and have brought the nation closer to their team with their campaigns. We know you have ‘got us’ and we are highly appreciative.

“These are exciting times for Springbok rugby and we can grow stronger together.”

With more than 200 of the country’s rugby fans also packing their bags to join the Springboks in Japan as winners of the ‘Join the Boks in Japan’ competition, the team will compete knowing that their biggest fans will be there with them to fly the South African flag high.

MTN customers can still earn “Kicks” to stand the chance to win daily and weekly prizes including data, voice minutes and Springbok memorabilia. To play or check entries on Kick & Win, go to mtnkickandwin.co.za, dial *156*083# or use the MyMTN App. The competition closes on 31 August 2019.
